10 museums in Pacific County are coming together to celebrate Museum Month. Each noteworthy museum will welcome guests to experience the deep culture and heritage that is woven through Pacific County firsthand.

Museums throughout Raymond, Tokeland, the Long Beach Peninsula, and beyond are excited to present visitors with special offers, from store discounts and special exhibits to studio tours and discounted or complimentary admission.

When Meares failed to find the mouth of the Columbia River himself, he wrote “We can now with safety assert, that no such river as that of St. Roc exists, as laid down in the Spanish charts”. Then, he bestowed the enduring name “Cape Disappointment”.

Appelo Archives Center

The Archives Museum & Cafe is dedicated to preserving and protecting the history of the Naselle-Grays River Valley area of southwest Washington.

We are dedicated to encouraging the study of region-wide history by preserving collections, sponsoring community and educational activities, facilitating genealogical research, and fostering Scandinavian studies, with an emphasis on Finnish-American heritage.

Days: Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, 10 am – 4 pm; Saturdays by Appointment

Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum

Located near the confluence of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean in Ilwaco, Washington, the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum captures the history and culture of this dynamic region. Starting with Chinookan Culture and moving through time, visitors explore the past and present lifeways of our communities.

Days: Wednesday – Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm

Cranberry Museum and Gift Shop

Visit our free Museum and learn about the cranberry from vine to harvest. See tools and machinery from the last century. Walk along the cranberry bogs on a self-guided tour. Shop for all things cranberry in our Gift Shop, and be sure to try our home-made cranberry ice cream!

Knappton Cove Heritage Center

This carefully preserved Quarantine Hospital, a National Register of Historic Places site, is full of fascinating artifacts from its layers of history. Knappton Cove was once home to the U.S. Columbia River Quarantine Station, the Columbia River’s ‘Ellis Island.’ Exhibits include: ‘Fishin’ in the 50’s’ & ‘Cannery Days.’ Explore history where it happened!

Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center

The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center at Cape Disappointment State Park is perched on a high cliff overlooking the infamous Columbia River Bar. It has exhibits covering the entire Lewis and Clark trail including a 20 minute movie, artifacts from the expedition, and contributions by the Chinook Tribe. It also has maritime exhibits, a gift shop, and a rotating temporary exhibit hall.

Northwest Carriage Museum

The Northwest Carriage Museum has been keeping history alive in Raymond, WA for more than 20 years! Come get carried away by the world-class collection of over 60 restored and conserved 19th-century horse-drawn vehicles and thousands of period artifacts, as well as interactive exhibits fun for all ages!

Admission: Adults: $10, Children: $5, Seniors: $9, Family: $25

Pacific County Historical Society

Located in downtown South Bend, WA, we’ve served Pacific County since the early 1960’s. Housing a variety of displays showcasing Willapa Bay history along with a PNW-specific Bookstore and Gift Shop stocked by local artists. Being a terrific resource for researchers and visitors, we have something for everyone.

Shoalwater Bay

The NamsChohts Heritage Museum & Library located on the Shoalwater Bay Indian Reservation in Tokeland, Washington features local tribal history. We also have an in house library and are a Timberland Regional Library Affiliate. Open to the public, admission is free and hours are 9-5 Tuesdays-Saturdays We do close for lunch daily from 12-1 pm.

Willapa Bay Interpretive Center

This small structure is a replica of the oyster station houses that were sprinkled across the bay to provide a workplace and shelter for crew and families from the California Gold Rush era into the early 20th century. The walls of this museum are alive with quotes from various oystermen and women, photos of boats, trains and towns of past eras and menus featuring Willapa Bay Oysters, along with two boats in wire bushel baskets. The largest and most appropriate space is reserved for Amero map of Willapa Bay, by renowned area artist Nancy Lloyd.

Willapa Seaport Museum

Willapa Seaport Museum, an educational outreach museum, keeping alive the nautical history of Willapa Bay and the “Seafairing way of life” for all to enjoy. Our museum is FULL of historical nautical displays in a 5,000 sqft building located on the South Fork of the Willapa River in Raymond WA.

Days: Tuesday – Saturday, 12 pm – 4 pm

World Kite Museum

Located footsteps from the famous beaches, the World Kite Museum and Hall of Fame is home to more than 1,500 kites from twenty-six countries and focuses on education and the history of kite flying worldwide. The museum is open year-around and hosts the annual Washington State International Kite Festival in August, drawing famous kite fliers from all around the world, and tens of thousands awed spectators, many of which participate in the fun with their own kite flying adventures.
