With visiting artist, Chris Baskin!
This beginner-friendly workshop introduces hand-building techniques to craft and decorate a ceramic vessel—a tradition that has been a part of human history for over 14,000 years and continues to thrive today. Guided by artist and educator Chris, participants will explore the fascinating interplay between clay, art, life, and the human story. Chris weaves analogies that connect historical and contemporary ceramic forms, the needs they fulfill, and the cultural contexts in which they were created. Join us for a fresh perspective on the enduring significance of ceramics in human history!
As artist, educator, and potter, since 1995 I have taught in a host of contexts from University, to artist residencies in Portland Public Schools, to working with an elementary student and his grandmother, in my own studio over the past four summers. I teach connecting with clay in visible and material ways, connecting with the self, the heart and hands, and connecting with larger world of humans living on this planet through images, stories, and records of things made in clay!
